March 2005

Meeting: 13 March, 2005

President Dave Brose opened the meeting at Round Table, Fortuna at 6:15.  

  1. Air time? 
    1. Some members noted that Table bluff was been working fairly consistently lately. 
    2. Someone mentioned that members should be reminded that commercial flights are not insured at Table Bluff!
  1. Magazine Dispersal:
    1. Dave reminded us that we have 2 free subscriptions from USHGA. 
    2. Dave has one being delivered to HSU but found that it is simply being “filed” and not made readily available. 
    3. Suggestions for the subscriptions were:  South Fork High School , BLM office in Eureka , County Library , College of the Redwoods, Northern Mountain Supply.
    4. Lindsay offered to call HSU and CR to determine where exactly the subscriptions were being filed and whether it would be possible to make them more available to the public.
  2. Table Bluff Activities: 
    1. Joe Weeth and Dave Brose have drafted an acknowledgement of activity at Table Bluff. 
    2. The club would later like to include topics such as enhancing the launch and eventually the club may want a kiosk that displays club bylaws and flying rules for the site.
  3. Redwood Acres, Outdoor Expo: 
    1. Dave announced that recently Redwood Acres hosted an outdoor expo.
    2. Either late February or early March of next year we should consider participating in this event to promote Hangliding/Paragliding.
  4. Shelter Cove Activities: 
    1. The Shelter Cove LZ is now insured (as an additional site).
    2. Leon noted that the lower launch (just above the boat ramp) is NOT insured or allowed by the landowner
  5. Possible new sites:
    1. Bruce announced a possible new launch up Alder Pt Road / Sawmill.  It is west facing with a possible LZ in Garberville (a field owned by an RC pilot).
    2. There was discussion of Micha's property as a possible advanced launch.
  6. Reserve re-packing clinic: 
    1. Several members (>10) expressed a need to re-pack reserve chutes
    2. Ku offered to call Tom Webster in Salt Lake to see if he might be interested in assisting pilots to re-pack reserves for around $35.00.  The proposed clinic would take place somewhere in the first two weeks of May.
  7. Future flying: 
    1. April 1st is the Elk fly-in.
    2. April 15th, Liz Hearn will be visiting and flying at the Mattole
    3. May 7th or 14th? Possible reserve re-pack clinic
    4. May 15th Cross Dressing party – swap your gear for a day
    5. June 19th and 20th Club day at Woodrat (or Hat Creek pending weather conditions)
  8. Next meeting set for April 17th, 2005 at Mattole Camp Ground after flying.
