Hang Gliding and Paragliding in Humboldt County, Northern California |
LINKS |
Hang Glider and Paraglider folks seem to have a high percentage of computer geeks among them. There is truly an insane amount of hang gliding and paragliding links in the internet universe. Google Paragliding and you get 1,280,000 hits. Hang gliding: 539,000.
United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHGA): Our parent.
Here are some links that are more specific and local, but they are, of course, only a beginning.
Neighboring Clubs:
Sonoma Wings: Sonoma County site guide: Elk, Hull, and more. Hang glider oriented, but clear about what sites are OK for paragliders.
BAPA: Bay Area (San Francisco) Paragliding Association. Site guides and more. Largest all-paraglider club in the United States.
WOR: Wings of Rogollo. Older club in East Bay of San Francisco. Hang glider biased, but lots of paraglider pilots in club.
Hat Creek and environs: World Class Glass Offs and more.
FLYZEPHYR: Mike and Kim Galvin's most excellent site and site guide. Paraglider oriented, but most sites also hang glider sites.
And to the North: Covering Oregon sites like a blanket: Cascade Paragliding Club in Portland.
Local Instructors:
Hawk Adventures: Terry Hawkins. Paraglider/Paramotor Instruction and tandem flights. (707) 668-5602 www.hawkadventures.com
Josh Waldrop's site for paragliding and powered paragliding.
Middle California:
The Owens Valley: It is in the middle of California, actually, and on the wrong side of the Sierras; and does not have a web site per se. But Kari Castle's new site does pretty well. And there is E-mail to Kari Castle: karicastle@mail.telis.org Kari provides information and guide service/XC-Thermal Clinics for PG and HG pilots that is invaluable. The biggest air on earth...
Marshall/Crestline: When we are up to our ankles in mud, the thermals get real nice here.
San Diego: 350 soarable days a year. We hate 'em... ;-)
The incredible California Coastal Records Project - check it out at: http://www.californiacoastline.org/ (and get over yourself, Streisand...)
Will Gadd's site: Current US open distance pg record holder.

World-wide mostly hangliding, some paragliding news e-zine by Davis Straub.
USHGA and international competitions and politics. Worthwhile.
France. Insanely great place to fly in June-July. Try Annecy and environs, and a place (Hotel Roc de Chere) to stay.
Tips for PG Pilots. A thoughtful collection from Jerome.
Adriaan Hepburn. Penguin flew with him in France. He has a lovely B & B in South Africa right across road from a coastal launch site. Does adventure tours inland.
An eagle carrying a TV transmitter - needs bandwidth, but great. Skip the Tiny TV Camera introduction and start with "Climb Aboard" http://media.animal.discovery.com/convergence/spyonthewild/birdtech/birdtech.html
