MINUTES
March
2005 |
Meeting: 13 March,
2005
President Dave Brose opened the meeting at Round Table,
Fortuna at 6:15.
- Air
time?
- Some
members noted that Table bluff was been working fairly consistently
lately.
- Someone
mentioned that members should be reminded that commercial flights are not
insured at Table Bluff!
- Magazine
Dispersal:
- Dave
reminded us that we have 2 free subscriptions from USHGA.
- Dave
has one being delivered to HSU but found that it is simply being
“filed” and not made readily available.
- Suggestions
for the subscriptions were:
South
Fork
High
School
, BLM office in
Eureka
,
County
Library
, College of the Redwoods, Northern Mountain Supply.
- Lindsay
offered to call HSU and CR to determine where exactly the subscriptions
were being filed and whether it would be possible to make them more
available to the public.
- Table
Bluff Activities:
- Joe
Weeth and Dave Brose have drafted an acknowledgement of activity at Table
Bluff.
- The
club would later like to include topics such as enhancing the launch and
eventually the club may want a kiosk that displays club bylaws and flying
rules for the site.
- Redwood
Acres, Outdoor Expo:
- Dave
announced that recently Redwood Acres hosted an outdoor expo.
- Either
late February or early March of next year we should consider participating
in this event to promote Hangliding/Paragliding.
- Shelter
Cove Activities:
- The
Shelter Cove LZ is now insured (as an additional site).
-
Leon
noted that the lower launch (just above the boat ramp) is NOT insured or
allowed by the landowner
- Possible
new sites:
- Bruce
announced a possible new launch up
Alder Pt Road
/ Sawmill. It is west facing
with a possible LZ in Garberville (a field owned by an RC pilot).
- There
was discussion of Micha's property as a possible advanced launch.
- Reserve
re-packing clinic:
- Several
members (>10) expressed a need to re-pack reserve chutes
- Ku
offered to call Tom Webster in
Salt
Lake
to see if he might be interested in assisting pilots to re-pack reserves
for around $35.00. The
proposed clinic would take place somewhere in the first two weeks of May.
- Future
flying:
- April
1st is the Elk fly-in.
- April
15th, Liz Hearn will be visiting and flying at the Mattole
